After finishing work on an eight page Martillo story  http://dbroughton.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/martillo-update.html pencilling and inking for the last seven pages of 'Mean Green Machine' took place between 28th September and 2nd October. After finishing the next eight page Martillo story, colouring and lettering pages 13 to 25 of Dredd 'MGM' started in November. They were completed a week before the publishing date of December 1st for the 2000ad forum advent calender.

Background information.

Before work could start on part three I had to complete six pages for a story in Zarjaz called 'What ever happened to Sancho Panzer' written by the Emperor. This was followed by a seven page story 'Martillo El Coco' http://dbroughton.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/more-martillo.html written by Greg Meldrum.  Eventually pencilling and inking for pages 13 to 18 started on 14th August and were completed nine days later.  Colouring and lettering for the pages took place in November.

Below: Once again rough thumbnails were used for page layouts.

Above: Pages 13 and 14.  Panel layouts were changed on the finished page artwork.

Above: Pages 15 and 16. Note the alien original temple design.

Above: Original layouts for pages 17 and 18 which were dropped due to a script change.

Background information.

After finishing the first part of 'Judge Dredd' MGM, Owen Watts editor of DR. WTF asked me to draw four full colour pages for the 'Psychedelic Journal of Time Travel.'  After the pages for Owen had been completed I started work on the next part of Dredd MGM. Pencilling and inking were started on 1st June and finished eight days later. There was a gap of several weeks before I could start colouring and lettering however by early August I had completed the first 12 pages.

Below: With less time for more lavish page layouts I resorted to quick thumbnail sketches.

Background information.

After contributing to the 2000ad forum advent calendar last year (2011) run by 2000ad fan Pete Wells.  Check out his 2000ad covers website http://2000adcovers.blogspot.co.uk/   I had the idea of drawing a daily strip for the next one.

Early in march 2012 I started work on the first six pages in my spare time. By early April all six pages had been pencilled and inked. There was a gap of 3 weeks or so before I could colour and finish lettering the artwork to make it ready for publishing on the web.

Below: Page layouts for pages 2 to 3 which were created in March 2012.

Below:  Pencils for page 2 and 3. Note the changes on panel 3 of page 2.

The next 6 pages of this story will be published on this blog soon.
