Script: The Emperor. Art: David Broughton. Letters: Bolt 01.
Above: Sancho and the team see the light.
On the 30th May 2012 Dave Evans (Bolt 01) sent me a script for Zarjaz by The Emperor which had giant monster worms, massive space tanks and loads of action....whats not to like!!! Unfortunately I had never read the original Sancho Panzer by the wonderful Dan Abnett and Henry Flint. So after contacting 'Bolt' to take on the job I was straight on the internet to buy some back issues of 2000ad for reference.
Copyright Rebellion.
Above: Sancho Panzer first appeared in prog 1112 (above left) and finished on prog 1123. The only cover featuring Sancho Panzer (above right) prog 1120, was drawn by Henry Flint.
Before starting the rough page layouts (see below) I read the script again. The script was nicely laid out and the story moved along at a 'fair lick'. To fit the action and 'out of this world' visuals that this strip required was going to be a challenge. Therefore I took a little extra time to produce the rough page layouts.
Above: Page layouts for pages 1 and 2.
Above: Page layouts for pages 3 and 4.
Above: Page layouts for pages 5 and 6.
After completing the layouts I started work on the finished artwork in my spare time. On 28th June 2012 I sent Dave Evans the print ready artwork.
